DAYKA ROBINSON STYLES THE ATLANTAN! March 1, 2012 I’m sooooooooo excited!!! A few weeks ago I was asked to style a shoot of a gorgeous home for the March 2012 issue of The Atlantan, the premier glossy luxury lifestyle magazine for the city of Atlanta. The house I styled, the residence of Dave & Leslie Lennox, is a stunning Modern modular home designed after their former home, a 80 year-old brick rancher, was totally destroyed during the massive flood of 2009. The new property was built on floodplain but is 6′ higher than the highest flood recorded in GA history. Pretty amazing. And now that the March issue is out, let’s take a look at my handy work, shall we?? Minimal styling in the exterior shot–the architecture is the star! A bit of adding and taking away. Restyled the homeowner’s glass coffee table, rearranged the existing furniture layout, added the industrial mirrored side table and new textiles to complete the look. The David Hicks La Fiorentina pillows are actually mine, not from MGBW as stated in the article, but the lacquered boxes and gear are from Mitchell Gold Bob Williams Atlanta. Their daughter’s glittery guitar was also a fun addition to the living room shot. The bathroom was breathtaking and didn’t need much (can you believe that tub??!), so I simply added the vintage cafe chair, plush white bath towels and sage green soap to complete the story of a serene & relaxing bath experience. On the upper deck off of the bedrooms, the gorgeous pillows nestled in the outdoor armchairs were also courtesy of MGBW Atlanta (which, unfortunately, isn’t mentioned in the article!) and I added the plant to give the outdoor lounge space additional life . Pillows, pillows, and more pillows! My car was STUFFED to the roof with pillows, accessories, and textiles but I ended up having the exact items I needed to fill in the homeowner’s inventive metallic banquette. Adding a mix of solid & patterned pillows in a variety of sizes made it just the space you’d want to lounge in after a delicious meal. The open kitchen, so breathtaking on its own, needed minimal styling to make it sing. Here I added their Emeco Navy counter stools and a cutting board and fresh basil to represent the story of the owners who actually make and sell some pretty delicious pesto from their home. Their brand, Hope’s Gardens (named after their daughter) can be found at local Whole Foods and in many restaurants in the city of Atlanta. If you look closely at the first photo you can also see their gorgeous greenhouse which survived the flood (and reminds me of that last scene in The Hand That Rocks The Cradle) on the property. Sidenote: the kitchen cabinets are from Ikea (!!!) as is the storage in the hallway which leads to an additional commercial kitchen. I love the way Dave & Leslie mixed high/low to create the kitchen of their dreams! And I want to send a HUGE thank you to my friends at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Atlanta. No matter what I need (or when I call), they are always there! The entire staff–Jonathan White (Store Manager), Ben Collins (Owner), Haley, Abby, Mary Margaret, Jon, Sara, & Andrew (these are just the folk I work with most)– consistently go above and beyond to make things happen and they extend this excellent level of customer service to all of their customers/clients. Our relationship began with Room Service Atlanta and has continued through quite a bit of personal and professional projects and they’ve easily become my go-to vendor here in the city. They’ve become more than business associates…more like friends, and they’re quite a hilarious group to boot. So if you haven’t visited the store in awhile (or haven’t been–gasp–ever) make it your business to get over there and check them out. And tell them Dayka sent you. I love those guys!! And how nice to read about your experiences and rapport with MGBW. Congrats on your feature and well deserved! Reply La Monica March 1, 2012 at 10:02 am (7 years ago) Your blog is one of the first I turn to each morning. I don’t always leave a comment, but I love your blog, and this time I had to come out of lurkdom to tell you – Congratulations!! What an awesome experience this must have been. The house is gorgeous already, but I can see where your “handiwork” helped to add the cherry on top.
