TGIF: KEEP PUSHIN’ September 16, 2011 I saw this video on The English Muffin Blog and wanted to share it with you all as the perfect way to wrap up the week. Turn up your volume because the words move so fast–it’s hard to follow along without sound! Ira Glass on Storytelling from David Shiyang Liu on Vimeo. Much of the premise of this video reminds me of the book The Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, which talks about the fact that people really become experts at what they do once they hit the 10,000 hour mark in tooling their craft. What this means is that after 10,000 hours of graphic design, 10,0000 hours of writing, 10,000 hours of sewing, event planning, DIY’ing, teaching, playing sports (or whatever your fancy), you can pretty much expect to see greatness, but you gotta put the time in. So keep moving & don’t give up. Success is just around the corner and if you truly love what you’re doing, you’ll see your 10,000 hours as time to perfect your craft (and not a goal that haunts you at night!).
